  It's official!

  tonight i just got my certificate: i'm officially a member of my church and a baptist.

  (i think of myself as just a general christian, but i like the laid-backishness of the baptists.

  i definitely don't think one denomination is better than anyone else though, and my church is multi-cultural, so i'm not a hater of other races like some southern baptists).

  Statements like these from wash-towel make my skin crawl.

  They're essentially like a gilded cage and are saying "see how wonderful it is in this cage, how comfy and pretty it is; if you don't believe it just look around, but don't look out side or even stick your fingers through the bars, we'll bring you everything to convince you this cage is the place to be. Oh and by the way if you look elsewhere we'll kick you out of the cage, because God told us to".

  from the small amount of research that i've done i've found the following points:.

  charles russell was the author of the prophecy that christ returned in 1914in an earlier period of his life russell promoted the idea christ had returned in 1874, which was originated by another man named nelson barbourat both times, christ was said to have returned invisibly (does anyone remember the story of the emperor's new clothes)russell used some measurements from inside of the great pyramid of giza to bolster his calculation for 1914, which was rooted in the cobbling of bible passages dealing with the fall of jersualem, the times of the gentiles and nebuchadneezar episode of madness (7 times)am i missing anything?.

  i'm trying to show a friend in the organization that all of this is a bunch of baloney.. .

  i grew up hearing that over and over.

  i used to think about those bumper stickers that say i would rather be golfing or fishing.

  jw's should have bumper stickers that say i would rather be going door to door.. once i got old enough to understand it, i used to beat myself up all the time because some of the most hellish days of my life have been out in service.. for so many reasons even more then i will list!.

  This thread made me think about times I've mentioned I don't enjoy field circus and get the canned response, "you don't go out enough to get joy from the work". Seriously?

  What Kind of logic is that? If you don't like it do it more, whaaaa?

  I don't like oysters, but according to witless logic if I just ate them more I would looooove them. Well guess what? I've had the nasty little buggers cooked dozens of ways and, SUPRISE! I still don't like them.

  john 10:16 - and i have other sheep, which are not of this fold; those also i must bring, and they will listen to my voice, and they will become one flock, one shepherd.. setting: jesus was talking to a blind man he had recently cured and the pharisees were listening in.

  it sounds like he had a larger audience that likely included his apostles.so, who is "this fold" he was referring to and who are the "other sheep"?according to wts doctrine, the heavenly calling (covenant) had not been instituted yet.

  we don't hear about that until the last supper.

  The best part is the ambiguity of the contemporary Bible always allows for an out, such as we cannot understand the complete ways of God, or God works in mysterious ways; in other words stop asking you sorry little ingrate and just believe us.

  How convenient!

  I've always felt that any religion, institution or entity who can base their structure on unsubstantiated, incomplete, inaccurate and/or untraceable information is like Swiss cheese; full of holes and kinda stinky.
